Janeil “Janjan” Day is a self taught artist since the COVID-19 shut down, but has always been a creative individual since childhood. Using fundamental skills taught from her art teachers, Janjan used sketching in order to cope with the uncertainty of COVID, later on she taught herself how to paint with small canvases during her free time while working a full time job. What ultimately led her decision to pursue her art career is when she met her fiancé: Kory Day in 2023. Since 2019, Janjan’s creative process became a therapeutic method to help navigate her PTSD, but over time it developed as a way to connect to her psyche and express parts of herself beyond words. Elements of her art include cultural cues of her life in Hawai’i and her ethnic background as a first generation Filipino-American. She also includes expressive figures to add context of a story behind her paintings. Often, her stories include illustrations of divine feminine beings and her connection to nature combined with her abstract patterns of flow. Janjan’s art is a powerful dance of structure and whimsy that tells a story in her unique perspective and her colorful outlook of life.
